Summer Event Report - Champions Weekend Next:
We had fantastic weather and a fantastic course to play on 24 June, 2020. Gerrard's
was in great shape, even better than usual.
A small turnout due to holidays didn't dampen the spirits, so just 10 of us
teed off at 0930 after a hearty Full English.
No-one managed to hit the fairway on the longest drive and I was the only
person to hit the green on the Nearest the Pin hole, so took the prize
there. A poorly hit 6 iron was good enough to claim that prize.
With my total of 32 points, I thought I would be out of it completely
(rumours were circulating on the 8th hole that Vicky was thinking about
challenging her previous best of 46 points at Gerrard's again this year!)
but in the end it was good enough for second place.
Neil Chadburn was 3rd with 30 points.
Winner in what seems to be a recurring theme at the summer event with his
name already on the trophy 3 times was David Stiff with a steady 35 points.
Well done to David.
Pog was hotly contested and the lack of a Longest drive allowed me to offer
some consolation golf balls to the winner. Just as well really, as I played
with him and was told that he had completely run out of balls by the 18th!!
The summer Pog prize goes to Lawrence Nee, a new member of the Society
(joined the tennis club last year) so in the prizes from the outset! His
score will remain a secret other than to those in attendance, but when you
lose 10 golf balls, it's not likely to be good!
Lawrence enjoyed the round though and we'll hopefully see him at future
events.
We also welcomed Mike Ward to the Society, who came in with a respectable 19
points on his first outing, good enough to beat the Chairman! Mike has been
a long standing member of ELTC but has now decided to join us hacking around
golf courses as well.
Finally, we should also congratualte David Sills on his return to the golf
course after his hip operation, also with a respectable 19 points, again
ahead of the Chairman....
I'm about to seek out a course for the Winter Event in December, but the
next one is the big one, the Champions Weekend....
For those already signed up, I'll be collecting payments for this sometime
in July when the final payment is due. For those that weren't able to commit
or weren't sure, please let me know if you would like to join us.
We are returning to Foxhills on Sun/Mon 19th/20th Sept, with the same deal
as last year. Just remember not to order the steak for dinner!
There will be a new trophy at Foxhills in memory of Caroline Ginesi, who
passed away recently. She was missed today and will be at every future
event, as she was one of the most reliable and committed members of the
society.
The Ginesi Cup will be open to anyone that plays at the Champions Weekend
and has played in at least 2 other events, allowing us to reward those who
are regular attendees, a fitting memory of Caroline and her dedication.
The Ginesi Cup will be awarded to the highest combined score of the 3 best
rounds from 4/5 scores during the season for each player. Both rounds at the
Champions Weekend can count towards the total score. To be included in the
Ginesi Cup, you will have to have competed in two other events during the
year.
JBT
Reminder to those in the JBT that matches need to be completed by the
Champions Weekend, with the Final played on the first day.
Ali and Vicky have not managed to arrange their match, so will be tossing a
coin for it.
This leaves the following fixtures and route to the Final:
Joe Austin vs Andrew Oliver, to play the winner of
David Stiff vs Sara Lumley
Ali or Vicky vs Jeff Pack, to play the winner of
Barry vs Neil
That's two more matches each potentially before the middle of Sept. Please
make an effort to get your matches played.
That's it from me, happy golfing over the summer and look forward to seeing
most of you at Foxhills.
Paul
