Saturday 11th July is Fred Perry Day new
The centenary of Fred Perry’s birth in Stockport, Cheshire is celebrated this year. However Fred played his first game of tennis at the age of 15 in Ealing. It was actually at the Brentham Club. The Brentham Society/Brentham Heritage Society has been lobbying long and hard for English Heritage to mark this with a Blue Plaque. But on Saturday 11th July at 3:00pm, a temporary commemorative plaque will be unveiled at the house that Fred lived in for several years – 223 Pitshanger Lane. Lots of local and tennis worthies are scheduled to attend this event after which there will be Cream Teas served in the Fred Perry Coffee Shop at the Brentham Club nearby. There are even open Fred Perry Tennis tournaments to enter. More at www.brentham.com and www.brenthamclub.co.uk

LTA Summer Series Tournament – 31st July to 9th August new
For the 12th successive year ELTC hosts an LTA Ratings tournament. It’s the only LTA Summer Series Tournament held on grass courts. Our very own Korin Harvey is Tournament Referee. Anyone can enter the tournament and normally around 100 people do. If you want to enter contact Korin at korinh@talktalk.net or call her on 07740 428358. If you don’t know your current Rating ask Korin or our Head Coach Chris Sordyl at chris.sordyl@sky.com or call him on 07931 352864

2009 Finals Day: Saturday 18th July - our 115th Annual Celebration
Finals Day is our annual shop window on the club. Over 150 members and ex-members regularly attend. Play on the Match Courts will start promptly at 2:00pm. The bar and the buffet lunch will open at 12:00 noon. Lunch Tickets (£12 for Adults and £5 for Juniors) are available at the bar.

Our first Finals Day was held in 1884, and the only years when there were no annual club tournaments and Finals Days was during the two World Wars. The Mayor of Ealing presents cups to the winners. The Ealing and Acton Gazette has been covering the event every year since at least 1957.
