Boris the Tennis Bear’s Bank Holiday Mixed Doubles Report šŸ»šŸŽ¾

Greetings from your favourite unofficial mascot, Boris the Tennis Bear reporting from t

he glorious lawns ofĀ Ealing Lawn Tennis ClubĀ after a sizzling Bank Holiday Monday tournament on 25th May!

Ā

And when I say sizzling… I mean theĀ hottest day of the year sizzling!Ā The sun blazed down from first serve to final handshake, but everyone did a magnificent job staying hydrated, battling through the heat, and somehow still managing to run for drop shots that Boris himself would have wisely let go.

Ā

This year’s Mixed Doubles event featured a fast and furious shortened format of five rounds consisting of five-game sets with sudden death at deuce — a very sensible decision given the tropical conditions.

Ā

Players were split into two groups, producing plenty of excellent rallies, impressive lobs, dramatic recoveries and the occasional ā€œSurely that clipped the line?ā€

Ā

After a fiercely contested group stage, the top two pairings from each group progressed to the knockout rounds on the club’s beautiful emerald-green courts. The final proved a fantastic showcase of doubles tennis, featuring Sangeeta and John vs Agathe and Tosh.

Ā

In the end, Sangeeta and John produced a superb performance to secure a commanding 6–1 victory and claim the Bank Holiday title, with both sides showing excellent teamwork, razor sharp volleying, and terrific sportsmanship.

Ā

Congratulations to everyone who took part for making the day such a success — full of great tennis, good humour and wonderful club spirit. It was especially lovely to see several new club members getting involved and enjoying the day.

Ā

An enormous thank you goes to Chloe and Liz for their wonderful selection of sandwiches, nibbles and drinks, which kept players fuelled, refreshed and upright throughout the afternoon. The catering was every bit as impressive as the tennis!

Ā

Finally, a massive thank you to Janice for overseeing the entire event and keeping everything running so smoothly in the blazing heat — no easy task when players, spectators and one slightly overheated tennis bear all needed managing!

Ā

Until next time,

Boris the Tennis BearĀ
