On a perfect day for tennis, this years all comers mixed tennis tournament took place on Monday 2nd May with what organiser Janice Coulthard described as a record turnout for some time with sixteen pairs of strong competitors.
All the games were played on a handicap basis, starting the first round with a best of seven games (short set) in what turned out to be a very simple way of creating competitive and fun tennis. Quite a challenging handicap process to get to grips with at the beginning but we all got there in the end. Almost seventy percent of the first round sets played ended with a score of 4-3 and you can’t get closer than that.
Lots of smiling faces and good tennis made it a great way to spend the afternoon at the Club, with sandwiches and snacks on offer and the bar being open throughout complementing the proceedings. There was also a ‘green’ element on site with Lotten offering a range of plants, herbs and tomatoes for sale, adding a taste of summer.
The semis and final reverted to a full set and provided excellent entertainment for all to witness. Semi final winners were Jo/Antony against Delainey/Hayden who played out an excellent final with Jo/Antony winning 6-4 in another close match! Great entertainment and many congratulations to Jo and Antony and to all those who participated.
A special mention to the following volunteers, Janice Coulthard for organising the event, Aree Chorsantiath for providing the sandwiches and of course to Guy for manning the bar. Thank you, we couldn’t have done it without you.
